Recirculating ball guide with X-arrangement of the raceways
SBI recirculating ball guides have 4 rows of balls that are very close together. Due to the flow of force, this is referred to as an O-arrangement. These guides are somewhat more elastic and can therefore handle larger inaccuracies better without jamming. Therefore, these guides are found more often in handling technology
Attention! Important hint:
SBG recirculating ball bearing guides are a discontinued model. Please only use it for repairs. Please use our ARC-HRC-ERC recirculating ball bearing guides for new designs. If spare parts are not available in SBG you can also use SBI linear guides. These are identical in dimensions, but you have to swap the rail and carriage together.
SBG linear guides have 4 rows of balls. These rows of balls are arranged in an X arrangement, which makes the system much more flexible against inaccuracies during assembly. However, this flexibility comes at the expense of rigidity. Recirculating ball bearings with an O arrangement are significantly stiffer.
Applications:
SBG recirculating ball bearing guides are somewhat better suited for handling applications due to their slightly softer design. With the same preload, larger deviations on the mounting surfaces can be accepted. If these linear guides are used in machine tools for machining, a higher preload class must be selected compared to linear guides with an O arrangement in order to achieve a similar rigidity. Unfortunately, this preload also has a negative impact on the service life.
