Challenge
Linear guides require low friction and high hardness to minimize wear. For this purpose, the waves in the surface layer are inductively hardened and then ground. By selecting the right raw material or an appropriate coating, you can find a suitable shaft for almost all applications.
Value
Hardened shafts are simple linear guides with a very long tradition. As a rule, the shafts are used in pairs in order to be able to transmit radial moments. In most cases the shafts are used for shorter strokes without assistance. For longer strokes, the shafts must be supported to reduce deflection.
